Mysore is about to witness a major influx of farming communities from across the nation in the next few days. Around 2000 farmers & farm enthusiasts are about to descend in Mysore from Nov 10th onwards for the Kisan Swaraj Sammelan. It's a pride and honor for Mysore and look forward for an energetic participation from all Mysoreans.

A tribute to our beloved K. B. Sadanand Sir....
K B Sadanand is a Nature lover who inspired many to love Nature (I being one among them) in Mysore. Last month being his 80th birth anniversary, let us remember him by re-publishing one of his articles written in Aug-Sep 2003 in the Nesara newsletter:
ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಖಜಾನೆಯಿಂದ ... ಲೋಳಿಸರ ಆಫ್ರಿಕ ಮೂಲದ ಈ ಗಿಡ ಉಷ್ಣ ವಲಯದ ಹಲವಾರು ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಪ್ರಪಂಚಾದ್ಯಂತ ನೆಟ್ಟು ಬೆಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. 'ಆಲೊ' ಇದರ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಹೆಸರು. ವೈಜ್ಞಾನಿಕ ಪರಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು 'ಆಲೊ ವೇರ' ಅಥವಾ 'ಆಲೊ ಬಾರ್ಬಡೆನ್ಸಿಸ್' ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಬಹುವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಮೂಲಿಕೆ, ಕಾಂಡ ಭೂಗತವಾಗಿದೆ. ನೆಲಮಟ್ಟದಿಂದಲೇ ಹತ್ತಾರು ಸುತ್ತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಲ್ಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಮಾಂಸಲವಾದ ಸುಮಾರು 30 - 60 ಸೆ. ಮೀ. ಉದ್ದದ ಎಲೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಎಲೆಗಳ ಬಣ್ಣ ಬೂದು - ಹಸಿರು; ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ತಿಳಿಬಣ್ಣದ ಮಚ್ಚೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಎಲೆಯಂಚು ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ಮುಳ್ಳುಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದೆ. ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕತ್ತರಿಸಿದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಮುರಿದರೆ ತಿಳಿಹಳದಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ತಿಳಿಯಾದ ರಸ (ಲೋಳೆ) ಒಸರುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲೆಗಳ ಗುಂಪಿನ ಮಧ್ಯದಿಂದ ಉದ್ದವಾದ ಹೂಗೊಂಚಲು ಹೊರಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೂಗಳು ಹಳದಿ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಕೆಂಪು ಬಣ್ಣದವು. ಲೋಳಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಮಹತ್ವದ ಔಷಧೀಯ ಗುಣಗಳುಂಟು. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆಂತ್ರಕ್ವಿನಾನುಗಳು, ರೆಸಿನುಗಳು, ಟ್ಯಾನಿನುಗಳು, ಪಾಲಿಸ್ಯಾಕರೈಡುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅಲೊಎಕ್ಟಿನ್ ಬಿ- ಎಂಬ ರಾಸಾಯನಿಕಗಳು. 1930 ರಿಂದೀಚೆಗೆ ಅಮೇರಿಕ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನ ಮತ್ತು ರಷ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಇದರ ಔಷಧೀಯ ಗುಣಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ವಿಫುಲವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ಲೋಳಿಸರದ ಎಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ರಸ (ಲೋಳೆ)ಕ್ಕೆ ಹುಣ್ಣು, ಸುಟ್ಟ ಗಾಯ, ಮತ್ತಿತರ ಗಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಶೀಘ್ರವಾಗಿ ವಾಸಿಮಾಡುವ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಗುಣಗಳಿವೆಯೆಂಬುದು ತಿಳಿದು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಗಾಯಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಪೊರೆಯನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿ, ಗಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ವಾಸಿಮಾಡುವ ದರವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿ ಬಲು ಬೇಗ ಗುಣವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ದೇಹದ ರೋಗನಿರೋಧಕ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಎಲೆಯ ರಸ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮೃದುಕಾರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಶಾಮಕ (ಎಮಾಲ್ಯಂಟ್), ಪಿತ್ತರಸ ಉತ್ತೇಜಕ, ಮೃದು ವಿರೇಚಕ, ಹಾಗೂ ಗಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ವಾಸಿಮಾಡುವ ಗುಣವುಳ್ಳದ್ದು. ಹಲವಾರು ಬಗೆಯ ಚರ್ಮರೋಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಇದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮದ್ದು. ಅನೇಕ ಚರ್ಮಪ್ರಸಾದನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಾನವುಂಟು. ಮುಖದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಲೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಚರ್ಮದ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮಚ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಕಣ್ಣಿನ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಕಪ್ಪನ್ನೂ ನಿವಾರಿಸುವ ಗುಣ ಇದಕ್ಕುಂಟು. ಅನೇಕ ರೀತಿಯ ಸುಟ್ಟ ಗಾಯಗಳ, ತರಚು ಗಾಯಗಳ, ಪ್ರಖರ ಬಿಸಿಲಿನಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಚರ್ಮದುರಿಯ, ಹೊಪ್ಪಳೆಗಳ, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಳಸಬಹುದು. ವಿಕಿರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಬೊಬ್ಬೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಇದರಿಂದ ನಿವಾರಿಸಬಹುದು. ಲೋಳಿಸರದ ರಸವನ್ನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೂ ತೆಗೆದು ಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಪೆಪ್ಟಿಕ್ ಹುಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಜಠರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿ ರೋಗಗಳನ್ನೂ, ಪೈಲ್ಸ್ ಮುಂತಾದ ರೋಗಗಳನ್ನೂ ವಾಸಿಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಕೆಲವು ರೀತಿಯ ಕೀಲುನೋವುಗಳಿಗೂ ಇದು ಉಪಯುಕ್ತ ಮದ್ದು. ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ರೀತಿಯ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವ ಲೋಳಿಸರ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಔಷಧೀಯ ಸಸ್ಯ. ಕೆ. ಬಿ. ಸದಾನಂದ |

A disaster averted in Saraswathipuram:
Kukkarahalli lake is a 130 year old lake built by the then Wodeyar king over an area of 125 acres for the drinking purposes of his citizens.
Thanks to their timely intervention, the Saraswathypuram residential neighborhood was saved from a major disaster - as the bund itself wasn't in a good condition and is prone for breaching any moment. Experts are currently studying the bund condition and hopefully necessary steps would be undertaken in the subsequent days.

- From last month, we have introduced the products from organic brand Pure N Sure in the Store shelves. The brand is owned by the company Phalada Agro started in 1990 and the Indian retail arm was started in 2011. Growing to consume is the mantra. Plucking a leaf of mint or Dodda patre to chew as and when you cross the herbal corner in your home is a good habit to cultivate....
- The Spinning workshops has been happening over the last 2 weekends at Prakriti. Slowly and steadily, the Mysore Spinners Association is growing. Learning a Hand skill would bring in Happiness, Empowerment and help keep the hands & feet nimble.
